Abstract:	The study deals with the definition of death. It presents methods to pass a sentence on death according to šarīʿa and introduces both interpretative judgement (iǧtihād) and stipulation (naṣṣ). It describes the process of dying and defines death. It details death of the brain stem and deals with the question when to discontinue life support and allow cardiac death to occur. It also passes a judgement on organ transplant.
