In our research on mechanical properties, we use the finite-element method for the design of special specimens and for the calculations of stress states in specimens with cracks and notches. We also perform 2D discrete dislocation modeling to understand dislocation reactions we see in the TEM. In the reporting period, we have also started to perform thermo-dynamic and kinetic simulations to understand driving forces and the kinetics of evolution of microstructure. In the modelling field, we collaborate closely with our colleagues from the interdisciplinary Center of Advanced Materials Simulations (ICAMS) and from the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung.
