Werkstoffeigenschaften
(Dr. rer. nat. Klaus Neuking, Dr. rer. nat. Sigurd Thienhaus)
This lecture introduces the physical basics of important material properties and frequently used characterization methods. Based on a fundamental understan-ing of solid state concepts, selected mat-rial properties like the piezo effect and the Seebeck effect and prominent mater-al characterization methods like the energy dispersive analysis of X-rays and diffraction of X-rays are discussed. Basic concepts are introduced with a close focus on the applications of these properties/processes in basic and applied research. As examples of characterization methods, the Mößbauer spectroscopy, force sensors and thermo couples are discussed. Moreover, the local chemical analysis used in micro probes and scanning electron microscopes is introduced. Students learn the fundamentals of relevant physical material properties and characterization methods.
The lecture is offered in the winter semester and takes place on Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
