Activities: Research Assistant
Nico Paufler is studying the effects of trace elements on the high-temperature properties of single crystal Ni-based superalloys. Transfer project T07 builds on the findings and methods developed by the Collaborative Research Center SFB/TR 103. In collaboration with the International Max Planck Research School on Sustainable Metallurgy (IMPRS SusMet), Nico Paufler continues the work on recycling single crystal Ni-based superalloys. Focus of his research are sustainable metallurgy and multiscale sample characterization. Recycling Ni-based superalloys may accidentally add small amounts of trace elements to the alloy. Goal of his work is to take a step towards sustainable single crystal technology. It aims to demonstrate how the uptake of trace elements influences solidification processes, the development of microstructure during heat treatment, and critical material properties.
